Atlas exists to compress the ambiguity in your records and get a shop from a stack of paper to one verified record, fast. It reports what the records and the regs say, and it points you back to the manual. It does not sign off work, issue a go / no-go, or hand you a repair procedure.
None of this changes who decides. The airworthiness determination stays where it has always lived, with your certified A&P.

Atlas only states domain facts it has retrieved from a source. When no insights and no matches come back, a grounding gate switches Atlas into hypothesis-only language and drops the temperature to zero, which means the system can’t improvise a finding it can’t back up.
Atlas presents a thin result with the hedges showing. A number that can’t be computed reads “— not computable,” with the reason, and the gap never gets filled with a confident zero. Green means the evidence cleared the bar.
Atlas cross-checks up to nine evidence channels against a fixed hierarchy, the same order a shop already works in. Nothing about how it weighs evidence asks you to abandon your existing discipline.
That rule holds on every run. Airworthiness Directives are classified in deterministic code as Causal, Procedural, or Airworthiness-only, with no model judgment in that call. Advisory Circulars are always treated as guidance, so Atlas describes the acceptable approach an AC lays out and never writes “required by AC.”
Each run writes a comprehensive evidence pack, so any statement can be walked back to its source. Internal database IDs are stripped on the way out, and FAA identifiers like AD numbers are kept, which leaves a record you can hand outside the shop without exposing anything internal.
